COSTA MESA (March 29, 2019) – A fatal vehicle crash closed all northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway during the busy Wednesday morning commute. One person died and three required treatment at the hospital.
Traffic came to a standstill for several hours following the early morning crash. The accident involved four cars in the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa.
Police responded to the crash around 4:45 a.m. near the Harbor Boulevard exit. One person was ejected from a vehicle and died at the scene. Medical responders transported three others to area hospitals where they received treatment for unspecified injuries.
The initial accident involved at least four vehicles. Several other crashes and fender benders followed the accident. All lanes of the highway reopened by 7 a.m. Traffic remained slow with backups extending well past South Coast Plaza.
